Seriously... deliquent!

I've been seriously deliquent in a lot of things lately... least (or most, depending on how pathetic I'm feeling!) of which, this blog! I also finally just renewed my liscense plates yesterday (which is good since they expired at the end of April!)- I hate how much it costs seeing as how much I already pay in taxes, but having a father who works for the Federal Highway Administration, I also understand why we have to pay it. Still sucks though!

Anyway, a few things have occured since I last posted. Here goes...

I met a boy! Yes, that's right- can you believe it?! I totally went outside my comfort zone, went on a blind date (it's true that you should always try and date friends of friends by the way!), and things worked out! The picture of Matt & I is from my first Red Rocks concert on July 4th- we saw Blues Traveler, Collective Soul, and Live. Fantastic show seeing as the last time I saw them all was 10+ years ago!

Colin got a dog! Yes, leave it to my crazy roommate to decide he wanted to have a dog in our downtown, 8th floor apartment. He's actually wanted one for months, and finally talked me into it. He ended up buying a pure-bred Golden Retriever on Craigslist. Her name is Peaches Sunset, and she just turned a year old. She's surprisingly a very sweet dog, and has only peed in my room once! The funny thing is that she wasn't fixed (and still isn't so keep the boy dogs away!) and she happened to go into heat for the first time the morning after he had brought her home. Oopsie! The little girl in the background of the picture is actually who named the dog; shocking, I know.

Lesley's Bachelorette Party/Wisconsin Weekend!
One of my oldest friends is (FINALLY!) getting married to her high school sweetheart in August- knowing Pat & Lesley for as long as I have, I can honestly say I CAN'T WAIT until they finally tie the knot. A couple weekends ago I trekked back to Madison for the bacehlorette party- SO FUN! We did a private yoga session and had lots of fun girl time. I also got in a Brewers game with my parents and brother and some time walking around downtown Chicago which is always entertaining!

CONCERTS GALORE! This past weekend was especially hectic. Luke was in town visiting for a few days, I went to each of the Rockies games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, met Matt's coworkers, and topped it off with the Mile High Music Festival on Sunday afternoon/evening. We saw Rodrigo y Gabriela, John Mayer, and the Dave Matthews Band. Needless to say, a good time was had by all in attendance. Since I had to work Monday morning, I was in good shape by the end of the evening. The same can't be said for some of my friends, but that's another story ;-) Monday night Colin & I attended the Police show at Red Rocks; 12th row at $229 a piece (given to me free from a station, so don't go getting any ideas that I suddenly came into money- see the above deliquent comment!). Joe Sakic was sitting right in front of us, though, which was entertaining. Nothing like watching an NHL star rocking out to 'Message In A Bottle'!

So, that's about it for now. Need to give a shout-out to my sister, as it's her 28th birthday today- HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIMBERLY!!!

Also, I'm not in last place in my fantasy baseball league anymore and the Brewers and tearing their way up the NL Central standings. As tends to happen, this has been a very good July :-)

Happy Father's Day!

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love sports- but what people might not know is WHY I love sports so much. If there is anything that most kids learn from their fathers (but more so probably sons than daughters), it is probably 'the love of the game'. Whether that be baseball, football, volleyball, or heck, even Nascar, a sporting event can always bring you and your father closer together.

Take me and my dad, for example. Every team I cheer for and every sport I like to watch and play is because of my dad. From a life-long love of the Brewers and Packers, to continuing to work to perfect my set, to cheering on Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, and the rest of Roush racing, my dad's influence on me can be seen every day. Like almost every son or daughter of a great father, I think my dad is the best and I'm excited to be able to take him to a Brewers game in July; it may not be the County Stadium that he grew up going to, but it's still pretty darn great! Happy Father's Day to all fathers out there!

So in other news, I had a very fun week! Because of my job, I definitely get to experience a lot of very cool things. Thursday night was no exception- the Broncos held their 2008 rally for all advertisers and ad agencies. Basically, it's an excuse to go to Invesco, hang out in the Broncos' locker room, and drink! In recent years past, the team hasn't worked hard to make a good impression- they rely on a moving highlights video and some speeches from local sportscasters and maybe a random coach or two. I guess they realized they needed to make it a little more exciting this year, because even if they DO get paid for being there, they pulled out all the stops with player appearances this year. Here's who I met and what I thought:

- Jay Cutler, QB- WAY hotter in person than in pictures- really great hair. Also, a very cute Southern drawl (isn't he from Indiana? Do they HAVE southern accents in Indiana?). HOWEVER, he looked and acted like he wanted to be anywhere but there. I kind of wanted to remind him of that great quote from South Park when Stan and Kyle meet Cutler- "Nice to meet you. I mean, you kind of suck, but my dad says you might be good someday." I wouldn't call his attitude cocky, but he definitely did not impress me.

- Tony Scheffler, TE- yes, he gave me my prize when I won a digital camera in the raffle. HOWEVER, he was very similar to Cutler in terms of being very nonchalant about meeting people, picture taking, and autograph signing. In fact, he was the first player to stop doing all 3- again, not impressed.

- Brendon Marshall, WR- For someone who has publicly criticized Broncos fans for booing and leaving games early, gotten into numerous troubles in and around Denver for everything from DUIs to domestic violence, and was famously with Darrent Williams when he was shot and killed, Marshall was probably the most genial player I met Thursday night. He constantly smiled and seemed totally happy to be there. Also, as a side note, he had a short sleeve shirt on- his arm looks fine!

- The Bailey Brothers, (CB Champ & LB Boss)- These 2 were supposedly 'surprise' appearances; they did roll in late and spend most of the time near the bar, but they were also very nice. Boss more so than Champ (he was just really quiet), but also very cool to meet.

So, all in all, it a very fun night! This weekend has been fairly laid back, which was much needed after a busy week. I will try and get pictures up from Thursday night! Hope everyone had a good week- until next time...

I Heart Sundays...

Sundays are my favorite day of the week- not only do I usually have to do NOTHING, but there's (usually) some form of sporting event(s) that I can spend hours tuning in and zoning out.

Yesterday was a fun, busy day- went for a nice run, ordered new glasses and contacts, enjoyed a yummy sushi lunch at Tokyo Joe's, went to church, and then went out last night with a very fun group of people (shout-out again to Bridge for inviting me out!). We hit up Sing Sing, Fado's, and a place I hadn't been before- the Gin Mill. Definitely will be heading back there- I mean, what other bar openly encourages the playing of beer pong and flip cup, and also has a tremendous stock of board games (including quite possibly the best game ever- Trivial Pursuit Greatest Hits!). Needless to say, I am running a little slow today!

The Brewers smoked the 'Stros today which is nice, but unfortunately the Cubs beat the Rockies yet again and have officially taken over first place in all MLB. Yuck.

I am watching the MTV Movie Awards right now- Johnny Depp is so smokin' hot! I mean, seriously...

Bertflex Junior...

So for a long time now, I have wanted to start writing my own blog. I probably do not have an exciting enough life to keep up my own site, but I figure the least I can do is try!

My inspiration sites are some of my friends whose blogs I have been reading, and one (Bertflex) that I am an occasional contributor to- I recommend them all!

Pretty much anyone who is reading this is aware of who, what, and where I am, so I am not going to dwell too much on that info. I figure I will just start this up and see where it takes me...

The Brewers won tonight, so yeah! And even better, Prince Fielder hit a home run. My fantasy baseball team is TERRIBLE this year (with a capital 'T'). Looking at my roster, you would probably think that I would be doing well (Prince is my 1st baseman which is why I'm psyched about tonight), but sadly that's not true. I'm embarrassed to even admit how bad A Fresh's Crew is (let's just say that with our rotisserie scoring, I only have a third of the points the current first place team has... for those of you not familiar with fantasy sports, I will put it in simpler terms- I.SUCK.) (Side note- Tony, if you are reading this, please curse my team. You might be my only hope- I know it's only May, but I am desperate!!!)

That's all for tonight- quiet, lazy night at home. I hope to get up early and get a nice run in before heading off to my eye appointment at 11. (Yes, I am FINALLY getting new glasses after 4+ years!) It will be strange to drive my car tomorrow (I am going to the Westminster Mall) - it's literally been weeks since I last drove it (I walk to work every day); thank goodness for that given the price of gas! I mean, seriously...
